EVADERE Training Network
EVADERE (Enhanced VAccines DEsign against antimicrobial REsistance) is an innovative European Training Network that will provide high-level training in vaccinology to 15 high- achieving, creative Doctoral Candidates (DCs), and equip them with a wide range of transferrable skills for thriving careers in vaccine research within academia and industry. EVADERE is built on successful collaborative research (two MSCA-ETN projects, BactiVax & GlycoVax), and represents a step change from conventional protein vaccine development approach, in that it will extensively employ structural biology and conjugation chemistry to enhance antigen immunogenicity and improve adjuvant function, and in that way generate entirely novel therapeutic and prophylactic vaccine formulations ready for translational advancement towards clinical phase of testing.
This network comprises 14 Principal Investigators with expertise in medicinal chemistry, glycochemistry, vaccinology, proteomics, medicine, microbiology, biochemistry, immunology, structural biology, from 8 European countries and two companies which will collectively train DCs in entrepreneurship, commercial vaccine development and bioprocessing.
Project description
Training in vaccines targeting antimicrobial resistance
Certain microbes can survive antimicrobial treatment. Vaccines to combat the phenomenon of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) are urgently needed. Supported by the Marie Sklodowska Curie Actions programme, the EVADERE project aims to train 15 PhD students in the research and development of vaccines against AMR. The training will cover patentable antigens, adjuvants, and novel delivery systems. The purpose is to ensure that the participants are academically and industrially ready for the next stage of their research careers in vaccines, while also contributing to the advancement of equality and inclusion.
Objective
EVADERE (Enhanced VAccines DEsign against antimicrobial REsistance) is a multidisciplinary consortium of 14 interna-tionally recognised experts (12 from academia and 2 from industry) from 9 European countries who will provide 15 doctor-al candidates (DCs) with high-quality inter-sectoral training in discovery and development of vaccines targeting antimicro-bial resistance (AMR) based on innovative antigens, adjuvants, and delivery methods. Trainees will acquire a broad range of transferable skills to underpin their resilience for future careers in vaccine research within academia and industry respecting gender and equality.
